DKMS Stiftung Leben Spenden (DKMS Foundation for Donating Life) has been a 100% parent company ofthe DKMS since 1997. The foundation is dedicated to the promotion of science and research, and it supports measures and institutions who serve to improve patient care and aftercare.
DKMS Stiftung Leben Spenden (DKMS Foundation for Donating Life) is especially engaged in setting up the support offers of self-help groups who are active for leukemia patients and their relatives. For example, DKMS Stiftung Leben Spenden, among others, holds the DLH patient conference Germany-wide every year which is conducted by the DLH Deutsche Leukämie- und Lymphom-Hilfe e.V. (German Leukemia and Lymphoma Support e.V.)
Furthermore, the foundation awards the DKMS Mechthild Harf Scientific Prize. With the prize that is endowed with EUR 10,000, an outstanding scientist in the field of stem cell transplantations will be honored every year. The award winners include Eliane Gluckman, M.D. (2004), E. Donnall Thomas M.D. (Noble Prize Winner) (2005), Professor Dr. Hans-Jochem Kolb (2006), Mary M. Horowitz M.D., M.S.
